Mountain Lion is the current version of OSX (Version 10.8). It is available for about $20 from the Mac App Store if you MacBook will run it. Then you purchase iMovie in the Mac App Store for about $15. Apple is not the greatest in supporting what it considers to be old hardware and software. I think any upgrades you may have wished for iMovie8 would have required payment, but Apple pulls anything except the newest versions from its site. Now that they have gone to downloads only it puts users of older software in a real mess because it isn’t like when you used to be able to go out and find old installer discs. I am not sure when iLife stopped being issued on discs and maybe if you’re lucky you can find something like iMovie 9 (if such a thing exists) on a used installer disc. Of course then there’s still the question if it is new enough to handle what you need for YouTube. Your ultimate answer may be to buy a newer computer so you can download the current iMovie.

Imovie 9.0 Download For Mac
As you have an old MacBook, you must know that iMovie comes preinstalled. Search on the Dock (the bar at the bottom of the display) the iMovie icon.
If you don’t find it, you should have the DVDs that came with the MacBook. The Mac OS X Install Disc 2 includes the iLife apps (iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb and GarageBand), so just insert it and install them. Then, open > Software Update and install the most recent version of them.

If you haven’t got these discs, call Apple to get replacement DVDs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 Another option you have is to buy the latest iLife version (iLife ’11) on Amazon, so you will get the most recent features
